Visa and Invitation Letter
All foreign visitors entering Peru must have a valid passport. For some countries a visa is necessary. Information about visa requirements and the location of the embassies can be found at the website of the Peruvian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (www.rree.gob.pe) or contact the Conference Secretariat. We recommend that you apply for your visa well in advance of your journey.

Climate
Lima has very mild climate. November is a spring month and usually has cool mornings and nights and warm afternoons.

Time
Peru is 6 hours behind Greenwich Mean Time.

Transport and Travel Information
Arriving by air There are direct connections with American and Some European cities. The airport is located in Callao within the metropolitan area of Lima. A taxi will take you to the city in approximately 30 minutes and at about US$20 - 30. We recommend that you take an official airport taxi.

Public transportation
Lima has a cheap network of buses and minibuses. Main business hours for public transportation are from 5 am to midnight. You may purchase the bus ticket to the bus driver. There is a new express bus line called Metropolitano which runs from the city center to some districts of the city. In this case, tickets must be purchased in advance in newspaper kiosks.

Taxi
Numerous taxis operate in Lima. You may take a taxi hauling it in the street or calling a taxi company. We recommend you call a taxi service instead of taking it in the street, and to agree on the fare in advance.

Currency
The official currency in Peru is Nuevos Soles (S/.). Exchange rate is approximately S/. 2.80 per 1 US$. Currency can be exchanged at the airport, in hotels, banks and also with street vendors. Most retailers also accept payment in US$.

Credit Cards
Visa, MasterCard and American Express are accepted in most shops, hotels and restaurants. Cash dispensers can be found on nearly every corner.

Electrical Appliances
The voltage in Peru is 220volts/60Hz

Safety
As in any big city, you have to take precautions with your money and other valuable objects. Take precautions when walking late at night.

Health
There are several high-quality medical clinics in Lima open 24 hours for medical emergencies. They also function as hospitals and offer subspecialty consultations.

Shopping
Shops are generally open 09:00 - 20:00 on weekdays and Saturdays. Shopping centers are open from 10:00 - 22:00 7 days a week. Most supermarkets are open 08:00 - 23:00 daily.

Insurance
Participants and accompanying persons are requested to make their own arrangement in respect of health and travel insurance. All participants are reminded that neither the Organizing Committee nor the "Pontificia Universidad Catolica del Peru" is liable for any losses, accidents or damage done to persons or private property.
